MGA organized a tea talk on the topic ‘Updates on the International Gas Union’ on Friday 18 April 2008 prior to the sitting of the Association’s Annual General Meeting.
The talk was especially held to provide the latest updates on the role played by Malaysia, represented by MGA as member of IGU, the highly respected and renowned world gas body. The gathering of forty five members and invited guests of MGA was briefed on an overview of IGU, updates on preparations for the Malaysian IGU Presidency 2009-2012 and the World Gas Conference (WGC2012) to be held in Kuala Lumpur.
Datuk Dr Abd Rahim, President of MGA and current Vice President of IGU, provided an insightful, informative and concise overview of IGU and the upcoming Malaysian IGU Presidency as streamlined on the following outline pointers of his presentation.
Mr Ho Sook Wah in the capacity of Vice Chairman of IGU Coordination Committee, delved on the finer details relating to the functional operations and executive aspects of IGU and preparation on the positioning of Malaysia to take on the IGU Presidency come 2009 till 2012. He shared on the theme chosen for the Malaysian IGU Triennium.
Attendees were also drawn to the challenges to be faced by the Gas industry and the Malaysian IGU Presidency.
Puan Azian Kasim briefed on the preparations undertaken by the National Organising Committee (NOC) which has been set up for staging the World Gas Conference and Exhibtion in 2012 in Kuala Lumpur.
The tea talk has been most beneficial to the attendees in providing an overall perspective of the workings of the International Gas Union (IGU) and an informative preliminary preview of the preparations underway for organizing of WGC2012.
