In conjunction with the AGM, the association hosted a knowledge sharing tea talk for members and affiliates and also a mock cheque presentation event to two charitable bodies prior to the convening of the AGM.

Complacency and careless work ethics and practices, can lead to incidents that can disrupt operations and productivity, causing not only monetary loss, environmental pollution but in some cases injury and death. As such it is critical to train young graduates who will soon be entering the job market on the importance of having a HSE mindset.
MGA Tea-Talk : 'Iraqi Petroleum Potential & Opportunities', 25 Feb 2010, MPC 25 Mar 2010 MGA hosted a talk on “Iraqi Petroleum Potential and Opportunities” on 25th February, 2010 at the Malaysian Petroleum Club (MPC), Level 42, Tower 2, PETRONAS Twin Towers. More than 80 members and guests attended this event where Mr Sabah Al Shammery, Chairman of the SAPCO Group and Board Member of the Iraqi Businessmen Union (IBMU) and Mr Amir Kamel, Executive Director, Mrooj Oil Services Company, shared on the business opportunities in Iraqi.

MGA Hosting the 1st Meeting of the International Gas Union (IGU) Coordination Committee Heads


The Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) hosted the 1st meeting of the incoming Coordination Committee (CC) for Chairs, Vice Chairs and Secretaries for the IGU Malaysian Triennium 2009-2012 at the Impiana KLCC Hotel & Spa from 10th to 11th February. This marks a significant milestone towards the official appointment of Malaysia, represented by the Malaysian Gas Association, to the IGU Presidency on 9 October 2009 at the 24th World Gas Conference to be held at Buenos Aires, Argentina. Members of the Coordination Committee are entrusted to prepare the Triennial Work Programme for the next IGU Triennium (2009 – 2012) which is geared towards practical and impactful contribution to the development, enhancement and growth of the worldwide gas industry.

Twenty eight out of the thirty three newly appointed key leaders for the 5 Working Committees, 5 Programme Committees and 3 Task Forces together with IGU officials from the 2006-2009 triennium and members of MGA Council, participated in this inaugural gathering. The delegates were from Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Qatar, Slovakia, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Datuk (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hj Hashim, the President MGA who is also the incumbent Vice President of IGU welcomed the delegates and introduced the overall organization and set-up for the Malaysian Triennium. IGU Secretary General, Mr Torstein Indrebo, provided updates on IGU whilst Mr Ho Sook Wah, the incoming Coordination Committee Chairman, deliberated on the approved theme, strategic guidelines , projects and preparation of the 2009-2012 triennial work programme (TWP). Puan Ungku Ainon Ungku Tahir, the incoming Coordination Committee Secretary presented the objectives, suggested approach and expected outcomes of the meeting. Dr Mohd Farid, the PGC-C Chairman gave an overall view of the scope of committees and past studies.


Brainstorming on studies to be undertaken by the various committees covering the whole spectrum of the gas value chain ranging from strategy, gas markets, LNG, marketing, sustainability, E&P, storage, transmission, distribution and utilisation were conducted and presented. A team building session was also incorporated to propagate and instill beneficial rapport, close networking and camaraderie amongst the delegates. Three task forces have been especially proposed to contribute and provide added value to the gas industry i.e. building strategic human capital, nurturing future generations and geopolitics of natural gas.


The theme for the 2009-2012 triennium i.e. GAS : SUSTAINING FUTURE GLOBAL GROWTH and the supporting strategic guidelines were expounded together with the outlining and definition of action plans, milestones and future scheduled meetings. Over the 2-day meeting, much has been achieved in laying a firm head start and well structured foundation to spearhead work and activities for the Malaysian IGU Triennium over the next three years commencing in October 2009.
